Submission to the Kogarah Golf Club Redevelopment application

While our main focus is on getting Marrickville Town Square, we also promote good public spaces more broadly.

The site of the former Kogarah Golf Course is slated for major redevelopment. MTS made a submission to the project, calling for:

  • A minimum 40-metre corridor along the river;

  • Public access along the river, integrated with the forthcoming Pemulwuy Park, from the earliest stages of development;

  • A naturalised riverbank, delivering ecological restoration alongside high-quality public space; and

  • A meaningful contribution towards the long-term rehabilitation of the Cooks River.

Submission to the Inner West Council’s draft Development Control Plan

Council invited submissions on its Development Control Plan (DCP) in mid-2026. The purpose of the DCP is to provide detailed controls for planning.

The great news is that the draft DCP included provisions for the future Marrickville Town Square, addressing built form, setbacks and solar access for the site! (See Part 4 (2 of 2) on the consultation page)

We saw a gap, though, and made a submission focussed on proper acoustic planning. New homes around the Calvert St carpark need to be built with the future use of the space in mind. This will avoid any conflict due to noise concerns when the area becomes a bustling public square!

We also suggested that wind, lighting and infrastructure connections (power, water, waste) should be kept in mind when designing the plaza.
