Vibrant communities, cultures coming together, great food, shopping and entertainment. But where do you go to meet friends? To watch the world go by? To grab a trinket from that cool little flea market? To sit and eat your banh mi?
As great as our suburb is, we are desperately short of public, civic spaces where we as a community can come together.
Marrickville needs a Town Square.
.
As of February 2026, the Inner West Council is deciding how to spend its infrastructure budget — this is how we can get the new public space that our suburb deserves!
But it will only happen if the community shows its support, right now.
.

We have the perfect spot, right in the middle of Marrickville on the corner of Illawarra Road and Calvert St.
It has lots of foot traffic, is ringed by small businesses, sits neatly between the train station and the high street, and is the gateway to supermarkets, a gym and all the vibrancy of Illawarra Road eat street!
The only problem is, right now it’s a carpark…
Encouragingly, the Inner West Council has shown some support for the square, but we need to keep pushing to make sure it actually happens!
Do the survey now to make your voice heard — we are so close to getting Marrickville Town Square!
